Taking care of your Hyperpigmentation with Young Living Essential Oils.
Hyperpigmentation is the increase in the natural color of the skin. Hyperpigmentation in skin is caused by an increase in melanin, the substance in the body that is responsible for color (pigment). Certain conditions, such as pregnancy, skin inflammation, sun damage, injuries, bad reaction to beauty products, post acne, and other diseases may cause a greater production of melanin and hyperpigmentation. Exposure to sunlight is a major cause of hyperpigmentation, and will darken already hyper pigmented areas.
Here are just some ideas of what can help with hyperpigmentation.
1. Lemon Essential Oil
Containing the naturally occurring constituent limonene, Lemon is a key component in many popular essential oil-infused products. Lemon is used worldwide in cleaners and soaps for its refreshing scent.
Lemon juice itself has powerful skin bleaching properties so now imagine how potent lemon essential oil is for hyperpigmentation! This citrusy essential oil is extracted from lemon peels, which have tiny pockets of oil in them. It’s richness in limonene has been found to fight skin tumors as well as lighten skin.
Caution: Much as lemon essential oil is very effective for hyperpigmentation, it contains furanocoumarin compounds like other citrus essential oil that have been found to increase the skin’s sensitivity to UV light. Never apply lemon essential oil at day time/go out in the sun after applying it as this will actually worsen the hyperpigmentation. Only apply this essential oil at night time, diluted with a carrier oil or even mixed with your night cream.
2. Carrot Seed Essential Oil
Carrot seed essential oil is one of the best essential oils for hyperpigmentation. People choose it as one of the best essential oil for hyperpigmentation after lemon essential oil! Produced from distillation of the seeds of the wild carrot plant, Carrot Seed has a mildly sweet aroma with earthy, herbaceous notes and it takes about 3000 seeds just to squeeze out one teaspoon of oil! Carrot seed oil is super rich in beta carotene, which gives carrots their bright orange color.
Beta carotene is said to reduce pigment formation by hindering inhibiting tyrosine, which is an enzyme that produces melanin (the skin’s natural pigment). Use carrot seed oil to heal hyperpigmentation, dark spots/patches and even melisma!
3. Frankincense Essential Oil
Best known for its effective scar treatment, frankincense essential oil is also good for reducing hyperpigmentation on skin. Frankincense essential oil has a rich woody scent and in addition to elevated spiritual experiences, the benefits of Frankincense essential oil include maintaining radiant skin. It has the ability to smooth and make skin look healthy. Use frankincense essential oil to brighten dull skin and get rid of dark hyperpigmentation by mixing a few drops of it in any carrier oil of your choice. Add Frankincense to your daytime lotion or night cream for a custom moisturizer that highlights your natural beauty.
4. Geranium Essential Oil
Geranium essential oil has a balancing and calming effect on the body, mind and soul. Geranium essential oil is produced from the steam distillation of Geranium’s fragrant flowers and leaves and has an aroma that encourages peaceful, spiritual feelings. Its flowery scent is very good for solving women’s problems such as menstrual troubles & breast congestion. It has lots of beauty benefits for the body including fighting acne, clearing skin congestion, healing skin inflammatory conditions and much more.
Effective in lightening scars, blemishes and dark spots, geranium essential oil is one of the top essential oils for hyperpigmentation. Mix 5 drops of geranium essential oil in 2 to 3 tbsp. of pure aloe vera gel and store in a glass amber container. Apply this to your whole face/areas affected by pigmentation as a night cream to help even out dark patches.
5. Bergamot Essential Oil
Bergamot essential oil is derived from the bergamot orange, which is also sometimes known as ‘sweet lemon’ because of its taste that’s slightly sweet than a lemon. For skin, bergamot essential oil is very beneficial because of its strong antimicrobial, antiseptic and astringent properties. It’s antiseptic and antimicrobial properties help protect the skin from acne-causing bacteria and other germs that irritate skin. Its astringent properties help reduce excess oiliness while toning & firming the skin.
Bergamot essential oil encourages skin regeneration and healing, which makes it excellent for preventing new scars and fading old ones. For hyperpigmentation, bergamot essential oil is especially useful because it helps even out skin tone by regulating the distribution of melanin, the skin’s natural pigment.
Always using Caution and Taking Care
There are many ways of healing hyper pigmented skin including using essential oils.
