John chapter 8 is the most perfect story about forgiveness and compassion.
These Jewish Leaders that basically hated Jesus were still out to prove him wrong. This time these leaders found this woman who had just committed adultery, a crime that would result in stoning. My first thought was well wait it takes two people to commit such a crime, where’s the man in this story?
The Jewish leaders were so fixed on setting up Jesus that they disregarded the law and only arrested the women without the man. This law normally states that both parties of adultery be stoned. This specific group of men were using the women’s life as a trap to trick Jesus.
I'm saddened by this group of leaders.
Why are they so against Jesus?
Why are they trying so hard to set him up that they are lying and cheating?
Aren’t these supposed to be the religious leaders of the day?
My prayer is that our current religious leaders are purer hearted. That they don’t care about competition, or who knows best or all but that all they want is people to be saved by God’s grace.
So anyway Jesus doesn’t get tricked. Jesus simply tells this group of men that anyone who has never sinned may throw the first stone. The men one by one dropped their rock and walked away. The story is very clear that the eldest too youngest is who walked away. Isn’t it true that as we age we are more aware of our sinful nature? In biblical days and in current days the younger we are with less experience the more self-righteous we act.
but wherever we are in life where can we evaluate ourselves?
Where in life are you quick to judge or condemn others?
My dream is to love and except all people showing forgiveness and compassion. Just like Jesus did with this woman.
